#Confessions of an inconsistent blogger

I realize I haven't posted anything since July. But I came across this "Confessions of a Blogger" linkup amongst some other blogs (and started by The Nerdy Girlie) and felt inspired for the first time in two months to write.  So without further ado, here are five confessions about things I've learned since starting up this blog:

1) This is an obvious one, but I AM NOTORIOUSLY BAD AT POSTING OFTEN.

I guess everyone has their own idea of what kind of posting-frequency works for them, but something tells me that having huge monthly gaps in between posts (as I've so recently allowed), probably isn't ideal. While I would LOVE to be able to fire off daily (and not to mention interesting) articles, most days I just don't have the time, energy, or inspiration for it.  Now, I'm sure a lot of that has had to do with the fact that I've been having a rough year and have honestly been down in the dumps about a lot of things lately, (I mean come on, who wants to blog when they're depressed?), but I also am prone to just plain old running out of ideas.  Some days, I get overloaded with things that I feel would be good topics that I can write about, and I'll even keep a list, but other days there's just nothing there. It's a learning process, though. Maybe one of these days I'll have it figured out.

2) I think one of the main reasons I don't/can't  blog often is because I HATE TALKING ABOUT MY PERSONAL LIFE.

I mean, really, does anybody out there actually CARE about what I do outside of blogging? I *could* tell people about the stressful but oh so mundane days I sometimes have at my day job, or the art class I just signed up for, or my visit to the grocery store, but does anyone actually think any of those things are interesting and worthy of your reading time?? I doubt it. And while I do hint at the fact that I've been struggling with personal problems (as I did up top), I do NOT want to go into the details. It just feels so weird to tell people what's wrong. It's like that in real life for me, too, I just can't talk about my problems. It feels like I'm just dumping unnecessary weights on people for no reason, and it's especially weird to think of doing it to complete strangers on the internet. Honestly, I think some things are just better off being said to a diary/journal and being kept private. Some bloggers out there are good at telling everybody everything, all the time, but I just don't think I can do that. Is that weird? I feel like it's weird, haha.

3) I am PARANOID ABOUT MAKING SILLY GRAMMAR/SPELLING/PUNCTUATION MISTAKES.

Everyone has their moments, right? And I'm sure I miss things every now and again. I mean, nobody's perfect, but boy do I feel self conscious after hitting the "publish" button that there will be some glaring error that I missed and that somebody will notice it and think I don't care! I do! I care a lot! This also sort of applies to tech/coding stuff. Sometimes I'll try adding a neat widget or something through coding, but I get it wrong, and it ends up looking so amateur and I get embarrassed.  Recently, I've also become paranoid about infringing on people's copyrights when it comes to using photos, so I've deleted a bunch of photos (that aren't my own) from older posts!

4) I DON'T UNDERSTAND FASHION BLOGS.

There. I said it. Now, it might seem like something ridiculous coming from a girl who went to fashion school, and I do admit that in the past I've tried those "outfit of the day" posts, (some are even on here if you look), but this ties back to confession #2: does anyone actually CARE about what I wear?!?!  I mean, I don't even shop that often, I recycle outfits like crazy, and I have to dress quite boring for my day job. Also, some days I truly don't care and wear the most unfashionable/unflattering, but oh-so-comfortable things. I'm not about to take photos of that. Also, I take bad photos. (Seriously, I can be pretty lazy about finding the correct lighting/angle/whatever which just makes everything worse). But hey, more power to those out there who can and DO keep successful outfit/fashion blogs. I do enjoy looking at them. (But I just don't get how you can do it every day!)

5) And finally, this is one that most other bloggers have also confessed to: I DISLIKE SELF PROMOTING MY BLOG.

I mean, I think we can all admit that we would love to have dozens, if not hundreds, of loyal readers who comment often and keep in touch through social media and generally support what it is you do and take a real interest in it, but having to ASK people to please do it? Ugh. I've had facebook fan pages in the past, and have posted links to my blog posts, but it just feels so weird!  Like "hey please take time out of your busy day to stare at my little post about (insert topic here)! Thanks!"... and then no one clicks.  Haha, but hey, maybe it'll get easier with time!

And there you have it. I have so much more I could say, but I'd be here all day.

Check out the post that started it all over at The Nerdy Girlie here.
And a big thanks to her for posting it! It's always nice to know that one is not alone when it comes to certain feelings about things, and that not everyone is perfect!

Until next time,

G.

  1. G I completely agree with the grammar mistakes. I cannot spell very well and defiantly use spell check as a crutch. Blogger's spell check isn't the great, so sometimes it doesn't catch everything, and I get hit with one person's complaints...but oh well. I fix it and move on. We are not perfect!

    Thank you for sharing!! xx
